READ THIS BEFORE COMING UP

Star camp has:
A lake for swimming, and a seasonal lake that dries leaving a LARGE beautiful meadow.  There are compost toilets.  You need to bring all your camping gear because you will be camping!!!  There is no running water YET...you need to bring drinking water.  The well may be in service by the event, but there are no guarantees so bring water anyway.

Please bear in mind that the trail to Indian Lake is steep, and may not be suitable for all.  There is also Duck Lake, which is a mile away by car, and may be easier if you have young children or trouble hiking.

!!!!!!!!!Fire Danger!!!!!!!!!  Fire season is upon us.  There is a active fire restriction in Klamath National Forest.  Star Camp is private property surrounded by the Klamath National Forest so we can have campfires but we are following regulations so please read on..

We shouldn’t have to say this but please do NOT throw ashes or cigarette butts out your window on the way to Star Camp!

*Use only the EXISTING fire pits.  No individual Fires Please!  All fire pits have proper clearance, with water and shovel nearby.  Anybody caught making an individual fire will be asked to put it out or leave.  If we find any new fire pits from this year, there will NOT be an event next year

No open flame, fire performance, or candles anywhere outside the meadow or the existing fire pits.

*Let fires burn down during day hours.

*Firepits need to drowned with water before leaving because it takes 2-3 days for the coals to burn out.

*Don’t over feed the fire pits or pile on too high. The heat from the fire can start wildfires near the firepit or near the trees around the pits.

*If you are going to feed the fires, please attend the fire until it is burned down.

*Please make sure the fire pit is safe (like no branches overhanging the fire ring) and that it has burned down if you are going to leave the firepit and there is nobody else around.

*Please make a habit of checking all the pits to make sure they are safe if you are walking by.

Alcohol:
No alcohol will be served or sold at this event.

Food and Drink:
Bring your own food and water, and some cash for the food/coffee/tea vendors!  It is a good idea to keep your food in airtight containers, such as a plastic bin, because of the mice and chipmunks..

Cell Service:
Your phone will most likely stop working as soon as you get off the freeways.  There is one hot spot at Star Camp where some people can get some signal, where you can make calls. (“the phone rock“, located on the trail to Indian Lake)  We are not guaranteeing signal, so don’t count on it...

Clothes:
Bring lots of warm clothes for nighttime and summer clothes for daytime…temps are extreme at the 6300 foot altitude.
Bring extra stomping shoes you don‘t mind getting dirty…you might be dancing in the lakebed!
Bring work gloves!  Your hands will appreciate it!

Sound:
There will be 2 soundsystems, one in the Meadow and the Groove Stage. The Meadow Stage will feature psytrance at night, and the Groove Stage will feature all other types of electronic and live music.  Bring instruments, drums, etc. for a jam session/drum circle at the Groove Stage.

Please Bring:
5 gallons per person DRINKING WATER, BUG SPRAY, SUNSCREEN, FLASHLIGHT, XTRA SHOES, WORK GLOVES, winter and summer clothes, food, your camping stuff.  Tent, a heavy duty sleeping bag and extra blanket, TRASHBAGS.

Recommended to bring:
First Aid, Sunscreen, Lotion, Sunshower, Chapstick, Swimsuit, Towel for Lake, blankets, chairs, extra batteries, Sunshower, toilet paper, tools, shovels, rakes, etc.

Vending:
We have cafes this year, but please bring your own cups, utensils, and dishes!  Please plan ahead and bring enough food and water for yourself.

Fun stuff to bring:

Children:
Children are very welcome under supervision! Admission for Children  is free!  Moms and Dads are welcome too! :)

Dogs:
We love dogs, so bring them if you are responsible for them!  Please don’t bring any unfriendly animals.

Star Camp is Tick-free, Poison Oak-free, and Scorpion-free!!!!!  What other outdoor venues in California can claim that?

Rules:

*Leave with all of your trash and recycling.  Bring it, Pack it!!!  If the people camped next to you leave trash behind, please pick it up!

*Smokers please don’t drop your butts on the ground. (firepits ok)

*Please don’t throw anything into the campfire that isn’t burnable.  For example, beer cans and bottle caps.

*In the morning, please collect all bottles and cans from the ground.

*If you see anything on the ground that is not organic or out of place, please pick it up!

*Please respect the land and the people around you.

Lost and Found:
Lost and found will be taken back to the bay area if it seems like important personal items.  Some stuff that was left behind last year is still  @ star camp.  We will have a box on site for items during the event.  Contact dj_goldilox@yahoo.com if you have lost or found something after the event, or please post to the mailing list.

How to help Star Camp
You can help by clearing the dead wood on the ground and bringing it to the woodpile for the campfire.  There are wheelbarrows to help do this.  We have a chainsaw, shovels, and rakes.

If you can’t find a flat spot to put your tent up, make one, or, make one for someone else after you set up!!!!  There is a lot of flat area and it just needs a LOT of clearing.

You can volunteer to make the gatherings happen.  Nobody gets paid, everything comes from you.  If you want to contribute something, you can!  Bring your ideas!

We always need extra gas for the generator, extra water, decorations, etc!

Thank you for reading!!

Directions.  We’re all going to take the shorter way this year, because the road has been worked on and it is a little better.  4wd is recommended, but not essential.  High clearance cars are recommended.  Subcompact cars NOT recommended.  It is a good idea to have AAA.  We are not responsible to damage to your car!  Many people have made it up in regular cars, but please be careful if you do.

your car will get extremely dirty (like going to burning man).  If you are renting a car/van, get the damage insurance waiver!

If you talk to people on the way up, please tell them it is a birthday party in the woods, rather than just a rave or a party party...Saturday Sept 5th is Goldilox’s birthday!

GPS Location : N41.50560  W121.99878

If your gps relies on cell phone service, cell phone service is mostly not available on the dirt roads to star camp.  Your phone will most likely not work as soon as you get off the freeways. There is one hot spot at Star Camp where some people can get some signal, where you can make calls. (“the phone rock“, on the trail to Indian Lake)

DIRECTIONS

The Labor Day weekend closure of the Bay Bridge will begin at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3.

The bridge will reopen by 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8 as Caltrans completes an essential and unprecedented construction feat.   go to baybridgeinfo.org for more information.

Merge onto I-505 N via EXIT 56 toward WINTERS/REDDING.

I-505 N becomes I-5 N.

Take EXIT 747 toward US-97/CENTRAL WEED/KLAMATH FALLS.

-Follow the rest of the directions

From Oakland or East Bay:

Get on I-80 E

Merge onto I-505 N via EXIT 56 toward WINTERS/REDDING.

I-505 N becomes I-5 N.

Take EXIT 747 toward US-97/CENTRAL WEED/KLAMATH FALLS.

From Anywhere: (trip time 1 hour from Weed, about 30 miles)

-Take EXIT 747 toward US-97/CENTRAL WEED/KLAMATH FALLS.

-Travel 14 (approx) Miles on 97N

-Take a Right onto Deer Mountain Road (there is a sign)

-Travel 10 Miles until pavement ends and the road becomes gravel for a short way

-Take a LEFT at the Fork (marked with orange flags)

-Reset your odometer

-This is 42N16 which you will be on for 6.5 miles (approx)

STAY ON 42N16!

When you get to forks, the correct way is marked by orange marker flags stuck in the sides of the road (about 12" off the ground)

THE CORRECT WAY is to follow the road with the ORANGE FLAGS.  If in doubt, stay on the main road, stay on 42N16!

If you are traveling at night, the orange flags are hard to see, so look up, the correct way is also marked with reflective ORANGE diamonds, up in the trees, pointing in the right direction….(marking the snowmobile trail!)

The road gets more rocky as you travel, be careful especially at night..  The last 2 miles are very funky! Use caution!  If you slow down at the bumps and steer clear of holes and rocks you should be fine!

After 6 miles, the road will get thinner and look somewhat overgrown, start looking to your right for STAR CAMP

-Take a right at the orange flags/lantern.   It will be lit with blinky lights and flags.   There is a "NO HUNTING" and “NO TRESSPASSING” sign on a tree on the left of the driveway! This is it!

Go down a ways, then, get out and find somebody to help park you.

THANK YOU FOR MAKING THE JOURNEY!!!!!!! Welcome to Star Camp!
